American Idol’ 11 Recap: Top 8 Results (Spoilers for UK Residents)

At the start of this week’s results show, Ryan Seacrest talks to Joshua Ledet for a few minutes. Josh says that he’s been feeling lightheaded and he feels like he could black out. I’m sure Nigel & Co. would love to have a dramatic moment on the show where a contestant blacks out. But really, if the producers cared at all about his health, they would maybe have him backstage for most of the episode.

But on to a lighter note: We get a teaser music video for Jennifer Lopez‘s new song, “Dance Again.” Ryan teases her, wondering if there’s any dancer there that she has chemistry with. Cause it’s no secret that she’s going out with one of her dancers, the boy toy. And seeing her laugh and trying to move on, we know it’s all true.

The contestants will find out their fates in duos (specifically, the pairings from last night’s duets). First up is Jessica Sanchez and Joshua Ledet. Jimmy Iovine liked Josh last night. Josh may be feeling ill, but hopefully he feels a little better knowing that he’s safe. And fortunately, so is Jessica!

The Wanted perform “Glad You Came.” I think I like this song; I didn’t know it was their song. Between them and One Direction, it’s the return of the boy bands! No wonder Simon Cowell is adamant about wanting a group to win The X Factor USA in season 2.

Skylar Laine and Colton Dixon are up next. Jimmy liked Skylar’s performance. Before we find out the results, Ryan also calls up Hollie Cavanagh and Deandre Brackensick. It seems obvious what’s going to happen here. Yep. Deandre is in the Bottom 3. Colton is safe. Hollie is also in the Bottom 3, which means that Skylar is safe.

Kellie Pickler performs “Where’s Tammy Wynette?”

Finally, Elise Testone and Phillip Phillips are up. And no surprise, Elise is in the Bottom 3, and Phillip is safe.

Ryan is about to throw it to commercial, but not before throwing Hollie for a loop and telling her she’s safe. It’s now down to Elise and Deandre, which is no surprise at all with either of them. I love Elise; she has one of the best voices out of everyone this year. But the judges aren’t that fond of her and she has had some trouble over the weeks connecting with voters.

Fortunately, Deandre receives the lowest amount of votes and has to sing for the Judges Save, so Elise is safe. Deandre performs “Master Blaster.” And I doubt they will save him. Ryan throws it to the judges, and Jennifer has to announce the verdict. You can tell she’s having a hard time saying it, but the judges will not be saving him. Deandre Brackensick is eliminated. And during that reveal, Jennifer says that the boys overruled her; she wanted to save him.

So what happens now? This is the second time that Hollie has been in the Bottom 3, so she’s in major danger now unless she pulls out something spectacular next week a la Skylar. If she can do that, then it’s uh oh to Elise, who could fall victim to that. I’m thinking that those two could be eliminated in the next two or three weeks, hopefully Hollie before Elise. I would love to see Elise go very far, at least to fourth or third like Haley Reinhart and Allison Iraheta did in seasons past. And will Joshua’s illness/lightheadedness help him with getting votes next week–the sympathy vote? Possibly.

Next week, the Top 7 will perform for our votes. And we’ll have not one, but TWO Idol alums returning to the show: Jennifer Hudson and James Durbin. I don’t really want to say I’m looking forward to a results show since it’s a night where someone is eliminated, but I can’t wait to see those two perform. See ya then…
