Adam Levine admits he can be a “huge pain in the ass”.
The Maroon 5 front man, who is also currently starring as a mentor on the US version of ‘The Voice’, believes he can be hard to handle at times, he said: “I can be a huge pain in the ass, huge pain in the ass. That’s part of who I am and there’s not a person I know who doesn’t think I’m a pain in the ass.” Although Adam he insists it isn’t all bad news when it comes to being his friend, he added: “I’m also really nice and a completely affable and socially adept person. There’s a difference between being an asshole and a pain in the ass.”
Having recently split with Victoria’s Secret model Anne Vyalitsyna after two years of dating, the ‘Moves Like Jagger’ hitmaker says he wants to learn everything he can about marriage before deciding if it is the right path for him, he told Papermag: “I’m extremely fascinated by marriage. I want to study marriage. I want to learn about it. I want to know it. I want to figure out whether or not I want to do it. I’m not just going to leap into it, because that’s not good for anybody.”
Adam also revealed he used to write love songs for the women he wanted to seduce.
The 33-year-old once met “the most beautiful girl” at a petrol station – who later became the subject of the band’s first album ‘Songs About Jane’ – and tried to woo her by writing a song and having it played into her workplace, he said: “If I really liked a girl and I felt these romantic feelings towards her, I would literally write a song and make sure they heard it. I was so bold.”
Unfortunately the romance was short-lived and a broken-hearted Adam decided to pour his pain into the 2002 album, he told Paperbag: “It was a brief relationship but we really did fall in love with each other and when we broke up, my heart was broken.
“I didn’t have money or a job. All I had was a girl I was in love with and the dream of being a famous musician. I was like, ‘I need to turn this into something good or it’s going to be a bad thing’.”
With a new album in the pipeline, as well as a new fragrance and a judging slot on ‘The Voice’, Adam admits that while he is happy to be working, he doesn’t always plan to be so busy, he said: “I just hope this isn’t the case when I’m 40. I turned 33 and I thought, ‘OK, this is exactly where I need to be’, and why should I stop until I get to a point where I can, and say, ‘f**k this, I’m going to go play golf’.”
