American Idol 11: Top 6 Results Show
US Air Date:
Thursday, April 26, 2012 (8-9pm)
UK Air Date:
Friday, April 27, 2012 (9-10pm, ITV2)
58 million votes were cast for the Top 6, almost 10 million more than this time last year.
The Queen Extravaganza performs “Somebody to Love,” later joined by Queen’s Roger Taylor and Brian May.
Ford Music Video: “Magic”
Video: The Top 6 stop by TMZ for some media training. (For those of you Americans reading this, you’ll probably have noticed that TMZ has been extremely active in providing breaking American Idol news this season, such as Ryan Seacrest’s illness right before the show Wednesday night. Some online seem to think that EP Nigel Lythgoe has been behind it all, and this does seem to prove it a little bit.)
The results tonight will be done in pairs. First up is Jessica Sanchez and Elise Testone. One’s safe, the other isn’t, so right away I’ll get one prediction wrong and one right. Jimmy Iovine liked Jessica’s Round 2 song. And Jessica’s safe! Which means that Elise is in the Bottom 3 yet again.
Ryan mentions the American Idol Tour and all the tour dates and info is available on American Idol‘s website. And I’ve checked the list, and I’ll be attending the closest stop to me, which is in Seattle on July 18. And I have no shame in saying that I’ve gone to the Idol concert each and every year; they’re always so much fun and I urge you to check it out if you can.
Stefano Langone, season 10 finalist, performs “I’m On a Roll.”
Next up to face the music areĀ Hollie Cavanagh and Joshua Ledet. Jimmy liked both of Josh’s performances. Hollie is in the Bottom 3, so Joshua is safe!
Katy Perry performs “Part of Me.” I’m not sure about her voice tonight (or the song), but I really like the military theme of the overall performance.
Finally, it’s time for Skylar Laine and Phillip Phillips. You know, I could see either one being in the Bottom. Phillip Squared was really off last night. Skylar had a showstopper with her Queen number, but she performed second, and going second seems to be a curse this season, as I’ve heard various places online talk abot. Jimmy liked Skylar’s Round 1 performance. Skylar is in the Bottom 3, and Phillip is safe. At this point, every single contestant has been in the Bottom 3 except for Phillip. Maybe he really is going to win.
Bottom 3:
Elise Testone (Correct Prediction)
Hollie Cavanagh (Correct Prediction)
Skylar LaineĀ
Before going to commercial, Ryan immediately announces that Skylar is safe.
Now it’s down to Elise and Hollie. Even though every analysis I’ve gone through and thought about myself points to Elise, in a way I wouldn’t be surprised either way on this one because both have been skating on thin ice for several weeks. But Hollie’s rendition of “The Climb” is what secures her safety, because Elise is eliminated.
Eliminated:
Elise Testone (Correct Prediction)
Elise closes out the show with “A Whole Lotta Love.”
After two back to back shocking eliminations (or almost elimination in the case of Jessica), things went back to normal this week with Elise’s elimination. Even though it was her time to go, I’m a huge fan of hers and she is one of the most talented singers of this season. I wish her good luck with whatever she decides to do post-Idol.
Now what happens? Hollie had a moment, which saved her. But will that be enough for her stick around for much longer? Maybe, maybe not. I’m leaning more towards maybe not. As I said, the results have gone back to normal. So if that continues, then Hollie is in danger. Joining her in next week’s Bottom 2 could be Skylar (since she was there this week), or it could be Jessica (because Skylar could very well go farther than her at this point), or even Joshua (if he performs in a position that makes voters forget him). And Phillip? Well, it looks like he’s on his way to the finale and the win.
Next week, the Top 5 (Wow! I can’t believe there’s only five left) perform. And season 4 (and most successful) winner Carrie Underwood returns to the Idol stage, and Coldplay stops by as well to perform. See ya then…
