The six time grammy award winning singer had suffered with Leukaemia since 2010 and its reported that compilations caused the star to deteriorate and she tragically passed away with her husband Artis Mills and her sons by her side. ”This is a tremendous loss for the family, her friends and fans around the world,” said her long time manager and close friend Lupe De Leon, “She was a true original who could sing it all – her music defied category. I worked with Etta for over 30 years. She was my friend and I will miss her always.”
The star had an illustrious career after she released her debut LP ‘At Last!’ in 1961, opening for the Rolling Stones and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 among just some of her triumphs. James had also suffered with heroin addiction and bouts of Dementia and Hepatitus C throughout her career which is shown in the movie adaptation of her life, ‘Cadillac Records’, in which Beyonce plays the star.
Etta James has influenced many of today’s current artists and the music her vocals so beautifully graced will live on………..
RIP Etta James 1938 -2012
