The BizzNiz has been an avid supporter of the brilliant upcoming singer/songwriter Archeo (Ar-kay-o) for sometime, so it was a pleasure to be able to hook with the Londoner recently.
The 21 year old who hails from a well travelled and diverse background has been making a big noise on the music scene since the release of his debut track ‘Mr General’ last year and is set to continue his planned domination of the music charts into 2012!
Archeo kindly took time out of his schedule to talk us about his past, the present and his plans for the future….
The BizzNiz: How did you originally get involved in Music?
Archeo: I sort of started from a young age really, there were various key moments in my life where I started to get great feedback for the music I was making and performing. That slowly started to fuel my artistic side up until a point about 4 years ago when I decided to myself that this was really something that was worth pursuing. I basically then started putting together demo’s of my material and sticking up online via outlets like MySpace, when that was still a major online outlet, and from then on things really took off and progressed into what it is today. Although it seems that it was quite a minimal process it worked out to be very effective for me.
The BizzNiz: Did you find it difficult to get noticed or heard?
Archeo: To be honest, not really. Again, people really took to my sound on MySpace. Through that and people talking about what they had heard from me it gradually led to the position I am in now. I met various different people, fell in and out of many business relationships until it got me here. I am a real strong believer in the fact that if you stick to what you believe and continue to do your thing people will eventually stand up and take notice somehow.
The BizzNiz: We know you travelled around a lot as a child, how do feel this influenced your music/sound?
Archeo: I’m not sure if it has actually influenced my sound but I know more than anything it has played a huge part in fuelling my ambition to create music that can connect with as many different people a possible. Having had the chance to go to these different places I would love to be able to consider re-visiting these them to perform to the public there, that idea really inspires me. It has also opened my eyes and made me realise that the World is much bigger than where I am living at this particular time. I have tried to dabble within the music industry across the World, New York, LA, Miami and so many more but after it all, I really consider London as my home and want to achieve things here before moving onto other places.
The BizzNiz: Who or what inspires you to create music?
Archeo: Its a divide really, there are definitely many musical inspirations which are things that I listened to while I was growing up, 90′s pop songs and R’n'B and Hip Hop from the early 2000′s which I believe have definitely had some influence over me in terms of my approach to writing. I find though, that if I actively look for inspiration for my music it becomes more difficult to find so I try to keep my process quite minimal and wait for it to find me. I kind of have a little filing cabinet in my brain that stores various influences or situations that have happened throughout the day, or my life even, which I can call upon when I need some inspiration or ideas.
The BizzNiz: Can you pick one living male superstar and one living female superstar in Music that you would love to collaberate with?
Archeo: On the Male side, its definitely between Kanye West and Usher. Generally because of the quality of their output over the years and that they were and still are a big influence on me. On the Female side, I don’t know…..I would love to do something with Madonna. I respect the fact that she has definitely stood the test of time and continued to adapt herself to stay current and fresh, that’s definitely something that I admire and look up to.
The BizzNiz: Your style is very unique and different, how did that develop and do you style yourself?
Archeo: I definitely style myself. For me, style is less about the actual clothes and more about how you feel in them. I like to always dress good and think that if I look good then I feel good, if that makes any sense
I’ve always taken pride in my appearance and I suppose it also contributes to my expression as an artist.
The BizzNiz: A question about your album, when can we expect to see it and what can we expect it to sound like?
Archeo: All I can say is your going to hear the album when its ready and that its going to be brilliant!
The BizzNiz: LOL!
Can you tell us anyone you have worked with on it?
Archeo: Yea, my main collaborator up to this point has been Mr.Waltman, who I’m a massive fan of. We have worked together on a bunch of songs that we feel are very strong and I feel very proud of. I have always been keen on working with one key person on an album to help develop a sense of continuity and a style. I believe that there are other doors open to me in terms of other collaborations that may happen but I will choose to keep that hushed at this time! I can’t wait for everyone to hear a more complex side of me which will be shown in the new material I release shortly.
The BizzNiz: Finally, describe Archeo in 5 words…..
Archeo: Hmmmm, that’s a tough one
