Roxette Live From Wembley: A Review

RoxetteIt’s been a long time since we last saw Roxette grace UK shores but the 80′s hit rock duo are back!

Singer/Songwriter/Musician and huge Roxette fan Ian Edwards has been kind enough to share his thoughts on the show…..

It’s been 17 years since Roxette last played a concert in the UK so imagine how excited I was when they announced their biggest world tour to date with a stop off in London earlier this week. The famous Swedish duo played to 12,000 adoring fans old and new whilst their football counterparts lost to England in the national stadium.

Roxette lifted the roof of Wembley Arena and performed over twenty songs including all the old favourites.  Darren Hayes (ex Savage Garden) also made a rare UK appearance to perform some older songs and also promote his new album – his vocal performance was stellar.

I had my first experience of Roxette when I was just 11 years of age.  My older sister returned home from an exchange trip in Germany with the Joyride album (on a tape!).  From that moment, I fell in love rox7with the vocals of Marie Fredriksson and the songwriting of Per Gessle.  It was the simple yet clever melodies and catchy hooks that connected with me so well.  They were the first and only band I’ve come across where I can honestly say that I love every song ….and that’s still the case today!

Tuesday night was the first opportunity to see them perform together and they madea childhood dream come true.  My personal favourites from the concert were “Opportunity Nox”, “The Look” and “Dressed For Success”.  My favourite song “She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” wasn’t performed on the night. As an up and coming artist, it’s the established and experienced acts that I look to for inspiration and Per & Marie are certainly two people that I aspire to walk in the footsteps of.

rox1I’m busy recording my debut album, due to be released next year on an independent label in association with TopOfTheOx, a national unsigned music competition which I won in November last year.  You can find one of my songs below and would love for you to take a listen. To find out more – please visit my website, find me on facebook or send me a tweet.

See you around!

I’d like to thank Ian for taking the time to share his views on the show and wish him all the best for the future!

I’m looking forward to hearing Ian’s new album but until then check out Ian’s latest track and winner of the OMGWire ‘Spotlight’ contest  ’Now That It’s Over’:
